Round One

Sun Mar 1, 2009, 3:33 PM
  • Mood: Triumph
So this weekend was tournament weekend. I didn't train on Saturday, I taught instead - just to keep myself active without wearing myself out. It seemed to keep the nerves at bay until I stopped moving and had time to think. Fortunately there was a lot of cleaning up to do and a few students may have accidentally got the brunt of my nerves and had an over perfectionist session with me.

sorry guys.

Sunday was a long day, inside the tournament venue was well into 40*C with very little air flow. And of course with everyone competing, warming up, stretching and practicing it probably increased the temp just enough to make it completely unbareable. they had only 3 rings instead of 4 so that made the running time go longer too. It also pushed all my events back further. The general run of a tournament is: get all the kids out of the way first and the adults can hang out for most of the day waiting - it never really goes that way though.

My first event was Weapons, but I was so nervous about fighting later that I fluffed it up. I still got 3rd out of 8 but..it was 3rd. There was more interest in Weapons this year but I think gumdo will always have an edge. Other then the fact that swords are just cool, Gumdo is all sword all the time and it makes it highly competative against clubs who have one pattern for the same weapon. Also the Gumdo people have upped the standard for ourselves this year. It makes it hard to beat us.

Unless you fuck it up. haha.

Onto my open hand stuff. I did forms first (took it out), Then Points sparring which I hate (2nd).

then a long wait till we got to Continuous Sparring.

Now, I'm a pretty aggressive person. I've spent a lot of time trying to simmer myself down, but at the end of the day my aggressiveness is just apart of me. Granted, I am a lot better then I used to be. I have a lot more control then I used to. I still see red when I get hit and..well..I hit back.

The first round I was in I got disqualified. I didn't get a chance to fight again. I hit her about 5 times HARD in the face, and almost took her out with a right hook. And it was a beautiful right hook. It really was. But I got a DQ. I didnt even get a warning, it was pretty much instant. Jim Casey (who runs the whole show) kept it going though. Everyone thinks he was enjoying it.

I try to learn control. And I will keep learning control. But its going to be harder the more I train in contact Karate/Kickboxing.

Ah well, I had fun. XD

Yeah in real life that lady wouldn't have had a ref to protect her so I think we all know how that one would have gone. LOL! Yeah I have always had a pretty bad temper and though I have a better handel on it with age, it still gets the better of me on some days so I know how ya feel. After you loose you temper do you ever say to yourself "Fuck I'm grown now and I still loose me shit like this?" Guess it's just the in the nature of some folks. ;)

I'm just aggressive. I tend to not lose my temper per say. I tend to go cold, like..emotionless. And when I hit someone I don't really see 'them' if you get me. I've often wondered if something is wrong with me in that regard or if I've just been in Martial Arts so long that I've been programmed this way.

hahaha i totally understand how you feel tiger-angel haha. by nature i'm a SUPPER aggressive competitor of a person lol. and for me, i don't usually loose my temper so much that i just say "fuck this shit" and beat the snot out of the poor bugger... more so if i get cheap shotted, like a swift kick in between the legs (you know who you are F%&K TARD *glairs*) i just stop holding back and go full force with the intent to break to you in every sense of the word (but normally the shots are the standard legal tkd shots).... i MAY or MAY NOT have shattered someone's rib cage on their right side with a full force tornado kick... through those chest protectors.... lol but i swear i don't loose my temper outside of that.... <_<....>_>.....<_<....>_>.... *hides all his fist imprints in the male pool locker room.....* lol
:iconoutlaw-tiger:
*male pool locker room lockers* lol forgot to add that last word lol
:icondtronaustin:
Ahhh! I see your point. I would imagine it's probablly just the way you are and you subconsicously gravitited towards Martial Arts because it has componets that you relate too....You know I charge 50 dollars an hour for this kind of session. LOL I'm kidding ya, but I do see what your saying now.

lol I've got a couple of hole in my room wall where I lost my temper big time.

Yeah my temper turns others blood cold, I kind of lose the emotion in it, lose sight of the person and just go at them. Its kind of scary really.

Oh and cheap shots piss me off. crunching my feet under yours just aggravates me, it doesnt help you win.

SO need to get my spin kicks back. sigh.

i strongly recommend spin kicks lol they are GREAT for getting back at someone who deserves a good WHACK lol.
:icontiger-angel:
I recall this, lol. I used to throw in spin hook kicks every now and then because people are so used to the spin with the full leg extension (back kick, side kick, crescent) and the hook seemed to get them every time. I'll have to get the rest of them going though for sure.
